My wife has a painful broken arm requiring surgery and is unable to travel much so our intended excursion to the south west gardens has had to be cancelled. So yesterday we joined friends for the opening day at Hodsock. I have written about the gardens there on several occasions so today I'll do it in close-up. The early flowering narcissus are "Cedric Morris", a gem I have been unable to obtain. They have been in flower as early as late October some years on a sunny Hodsock bank.
You have access to such marvelous gardens in the UK! Very few of ours measure up to the same standard. I love that mass of Cyclamen and what I think must be the tassels of a Garrya.

DeleteOne thing I love about the late winter bulbs is their capacity to completely cheer up a landscape with only six inches or so of flowering stem... It looks like you had a beautifully still day for your visit. Hope your wife's arm heals quickly and well!
ReplyDeleteWe had the one lovely day since Hodsock opened for the snowdrop month. Having said that, they have a huge marquee tent with great refreshments - always a treat on a bracing February day, Amy. And Jan had her plaster cast taken off two days ago, easing the pain somewhat without giving her any noticeable movement in her hand. She says it looks like she has had a hand transplant. Time will heal it we hope as we are both dancers and she needs both arms to guide me along the dance floor.
