We visited the North Yorkshire Goldsborough Hall for the first time on 16 February 2014 for one of their new "Snowdrop Days". This 17th century mansion is the former home of HRH Princess Mary and has a series of trees planted by royalty including King George V and Queen Mary. The house is now an extremely luxurious hotel run by the rather charming Mark and Clare Oglesby who with their daughter were hosts for the day.

| Aconites, snowdrops and hellebores are exceptionally well grown here by people who know their plants. |

| Clare Oglesby in particular is knowledgeable about and loves her snowdrop varieties. There were many rare specimens in the landscaped woodlands with clear labelling. One in particular took my fancy. "Mrs Thompson" was imposing with five petals and a pure white parasol-like spread. I promptly purchased one and, examining it this very morning, it has already sent up at least two flowering shoots, |
